We Are American Girls! An Ode to Independence

We fell in together at a parking lot
Sat on a car and talked and thought
We spoke of our dreams and how we would make them all
Come true one day, even if on the way, we had to rise after a fall
We don’t need men or mommies getting in our way
But if you have open minds then we can play
Just remember if you think we are haughty
We each control our own body
We won’t linger if you’re being snobby
And we’ll risk being called naughty

Yes, we are proud to be American girls!
Hot blooded and raring to go and make our way in the world
Hot blooded, all American girls – we were raised with a vision
Every day we’re on a mission with or without your permission!

We want to reach for the stars and go were few have yet been
We have bold, young hearts and many successes to win
Cause we’re born in the land of the brave and the free
We don’t bow down to pontifical, parental, or princely tyranny
We each control our own body and if we choose we’ll be naughty
Though some may charge we’re haughty, we won’t listen to drivel
Or to blaming and shaming, and we’ll neither quaver nor snivel

Yes, we are proud to be American girls!
Hot blooded and raring to go and make our way in the world
Hot blooded, all American girls – we were raised with a vision
Every day we’re on a mission with or without your permission!

We’re going to shine brightly and we won’t hide our light
We’re going to go forth and keep up the fight
We going to strive to do what is right and share some of our grace
We know we’ll be all we can be and we won’t be put in our place
We’re not ashamed of our beauty! So don’t you berate and get snooty.
If you cannot handle our pride, then step right off to the side,
Because we’re joyous and undaunted American girls!

Yes, we are proud to be American girls!
Hot blooded and raring to go and make our way in the world
Hot blooded, all American girls – we were raised with a vision
Every day we’re on a mission with or without your permission!

================================================================================

This poem reprises the theme of an essay written in a far more serious tone. Despite the exuberance of this piece, the issue is a serious matter. Women in America and around the globe are routinely denied their full complement of human rights and if they are Americans, their full complement of civil rights and civil liberties. This oppression must promptly cease and desist! No person of goodwill can lend any support to the devaluation and oppression of female human beings. No worthy religious creed or positive political ideology truly excuses such benighted attitudes and actions. Fervent belief in the inequality of all human beings does not alter the fact that all humans are humans and despite our difference of shade, stature, and shape all and each of us are authentically equal.

Happy Birthday, America!                                                           Rock on, American Girls!

You are most welcome Dani. I cannot understand why so many American males are bystanders in the battle for female liberation.

Hey, Larry, I’m one of those girls. Still. Won’t it be nice when men learn to respect us for who we really are, rather than the little Stepford Ladies they’d like us to be? Thanks, as always, you lovely feminist, you!

Melody, I am puzzled that so many men participate in the disrespecting and mistreatment of women. I believe we would all be far better off if females were liberated and able to share themselves in all their glory with the world. From my experience, women are generous and good. I am even more puzzled by women who help keep their sisters down.

      Thanks for your kind words.

    Larry,

Thank you for the heads up on your poem & message at the end. Have been on hiatus. Needed chill time. “Coming Back to Life” as we speak.

I love your enthusiasm & the fight in your words going out to promote the cause of women’s right which when reached will culminate in human rights for all. I would like to extend that beyond US boundaries & wish for human rights everywhere. I wish
those that try to destroy the good in people & their lives, also, would stop & reflect on what exactly they are doing.

I do believe in Evil & I think those people who cannot respect every living being & treat them accordingly are lost & are trying to bring down the whole world with their sociopathic & psychopathic needs for destruction.

This is what we are up against.

But with men & women who think & feel the way that we do & act out their strength of belief, maybe we stand a chance of overcoming the darkness that plagues the world.

Wonderful writing. Not offended at all by partially naked women. Rather like/love naked women as a rule. So as long as they freely choose to be outgoing in presenting their enthusiasm through design, let us all Girls/Women Boys/Men be
free to express ourselves in what manner we choose.

Love the way you think, feel & express yourself, my friend.

    Jennifer

      Jennifer,

“I do believe in Evil & I think those people who cannot respect every living being & treat them accordingly are lost & are trying to bring down the whole world with their sociopathic & psychopathic needs for destruction.”

I do believe in Evil too in the precise sense that you state. When I hear people bleat -- “It’s just the way things are.” My nerves fire and my eyes turn dark. The great majority of wrong in the world arises from choices bigoted, resentful, hostile misanthropic individuals or mobs have made.

Nobody, American Girls, American Boys, Israeli Girls or Boys, Palestinian Boys and Girls, Guatemalan, Honduran, Salvadoran, Mexican, or whatever Boys and Girls deserve any less respect than the most exalted person on the planet as far as human rights are concerned.

I fully endorse and will soon be writing a series on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: the thirty rules adopted in 1948 that apply with equal force to everyone on the planet and not only those who share or place of birth, color of skin, form of genitalia, or choice of love interest.

      Thanks again,

      Larry
