Gaming:The Ingress Experience

I am not really a heavy duty gamer. But I got influenced by friends who are into gaming. I am talking about online and offline gaming. And it also covers Android, iOS and PC games. It is fun to share experiences with fellow gamers. I think the benefit of gaming is that it trains the mind to be analytic and alert. There is a recent study that gaming has Psychological benefits.

I discovered Ingress more than a year ago when I was using an Android device. I read about it, and I also saw an advertisement on YouTube. But at that time you could not join unless you get an invite. It was also undergoing development so stability was an issue. I started playing it but stopped when I suffered from flu. I want to start again especially now that the weather is good for outdoor activities.

So what is Ingress? The Free Dictionary defines the word as:

1. also in·gres·sion (n-grshn) A going in or entering.

Koryan Daniel Csernei, Ingress user.

Koryan Daniel Csernei, Ingress user.

2. Right or permission to enter.
3. A means or place of entering.
Which makes sense because this game is all about portals.

Ingress is based on the concept of augmented reality.  It is a huge online multi-player game based on GPS navigation, created by Niantic Labs

The Wiki descriptions states: The gameplay consists of establishing “portals” at places of public art, landmarks, cenotaphs, etc., and linking them to create virtual triangular fields over geographic areas. Progress in the game is measured by the number of Mind Units, i.e. people, nominally controlled by each faction (as illustrated on the Intel Map). The necessary links between portals may range from meters to kilometers, to hundreds of kilometers in operations of considerable logistical complexity.International links and fields are not uncommon, as Ingress has attracted an enthusiastic following in cities worldwide amongst both young and old, to the extent that the gameplay is itself a lifestyle for some, including tattoos.

I hope that helps. I also attached a link at the end of this post to help you in starting the game.

I asked a good friend about his gaming experience playing Ingress on his mobile device. His name is Koryan Daniel Csernei. He is a computer expert and musician from Hungary.

1. What do you enjoy most about Ingress? –

It’s enjoyable  because it entices me to walk through the city, and to go to visit some interesting or unknown places. So I don’t just sit before the computer. It makes me to move. I learn culture, with little sci fi fantasy playing.

2. Is it different from other games you played before? –

I have never played games  like this before, so yes, it’s different. Or just partially? I’m playing a PC game too. The  it’s called Watch Dogs. It’s similar a little, for me. Maybe by the Hacks. But Ingress is a friendly game. I.E. wanted to be. I heard it gets violent in some places.

3.What is your current level? –

Now I’m on level 6, but near the 7. I’m on it, I work on it.

4.Do you know other people who play this game? –10581225_926756990684069_1282000476_n

Yes, but I only got to know these people after I started play this game. My young brother is also playing with it already. I know this game is played by lots of people.

5.Can you describe your character? –

Hmm, I can’t. I dont know. It’s me. There, here. Everyone plays the way they are. I try to move up on the ladder of the levels. I think this is the target for everyone. And that his group, be the leader.

6.Do you think it needs improvement? –

This game is continuously evolving / constantly developing. It has a bug, on and off. One that makes me angry. After using the GLYPH hack, the game goes crazy for a short time. But it’s just a little problem. It’s an awesome game for phones.

For those who are interested to play Ingress, here is a good article from Androd Central written by Scott Kenyon:
