KRS-One 2012 Video: AZTECHNICAL
While it may not be essential to state that I am not much of a rap fan, you better believe that I’m on top of my 2012 news and information. I’m certainly way too concerned with historical dates, like the kind that KRS-One uses here, to to help figure out what pieces of history are trying to tell us. If it’s a rap song with lyrical enlightenment, sign me up quick. Also, I’ve always maintained that there is a lot to be said about longevity in the recording business, and KRS-One drops his 20th album this year, a feat that automatically earns my respect.
Most of what I know about 2012 comes from the world’s greatest psychonaut, space ranger Terence McKenna. As the year clicks along it would be nice to introduce some of the Expat audience to a taste of McKenna’s work. During his lifetime McKenna saw discussed to mass audiences visions of our world as being in a state of crisis, and that 2012 would not merely be the end, but that it would be a time that there would be potential for radical shift. As if we are living in a time where we as a civilization will be living out all of recorded history at once, from the Fall of the Romans to the imperialism that was the hallmark of the Reagan era, and so on. The 2012 phenomenon is now an industry responsible for thousands of authors, most of them complete rubbish, it make me wonder what Terence would think about it all. Most likely he would be on television daily intellectually discussing the phenomenon with vigor and authority to espouse some meaning of phrases such as “you may turn into light” and “your soul might lift to higher consciousness, ” as preached in this song.

I’ve heard of much worse fates than “turning into light” or “lifting to higher consciousness”. I rather like the idea of turning into light, which I believe we all will do sooner or later. Truth really Is stranger than fiction!
Oh yeah, it makes for a good night of philosophizing over such matters with a lot of wine (or weed). Or sober, but
SorrY I haven’t yet figured out how to embed videos on this thing…
Interesting video and article! I am not much of a Rap fan either, but if this video was used in schools, it might actually spark some intellectual awareness and conversation among students. Whatever it takes to send minds to a “higher level” is a good learning tool, wine and pot aside. The Mayans had a fascinating culture. I’ve learned this by watching the Discovery channel.
See what I mean about awakening minds? I will watch this again later, maybe with a glass of wine.
I am IMPRESSED by your knowledge of KRS-One. He has actually done a ton of work to stop violence in the African American and hip hop communities. He was also part of a 9/11 benefit, and gave a great speech on the importance of non violence in this country. I wanted to link it but can’t find it.
I agree with Cher that this video would be a good jumping point for teachers to “start the conversation” with their students.
I’m with Melody..If I want to have anything happen to me in 2012 it is to turn into light and lift into a higher consciousness! I’ve never gotten to wrapped in the prophesies. I guess within me..I feel as if I’m gonna blow up with the rest of the population.. I’d rather it be unsuspecting. I would probably be humming in childlike murmur; as the world’s count-down to the end begins..”It’s not happening..It’s not happening..It’s not happening”..and then Poof. I’m turned to ash.
“Psychonaut” Terrance McKenna was too high “altered” on drugs to catch my attention outside of mere entertainment. Now..KRS One..I will try to listen too, but I need a writing pad and pen to take notes, and will have to keep my pointer on the pause button…(so much information, too fast that it makes my brain hurt..lol)
Great article Samual and cause for some interesting dialogue and debate.
Oops..Samuel! (sp)
Mantra,
You are light and a bright one at that!
As ever,
Larry
Samuel,
“The knowledge is right there and we don’t even look”
Words to the wise if any are left.
2012 -- “it would be a time that there would be potential for radical shift.” I believe this is definitely the case.
Here in America, we face a choice and it is more significant than millions imagine. The knowledge is right there and we won’t even look.
Woe be unto us.
Thanks for this,
Larry
