***Oscar Winner vs Predictions . Major Awards (2017)***
by j.kiley

False Alarm When BEST PICTURE was announced. Warren Beatty & Faye Dunaway were given the wrong envelop. Instead of Best Picture they had the envelop for Best Actress. La La Land was wrongly announced as winning for Best Picture. Their celebration was halted when the right envelop and other Golden Statues were brought out by Warren Beatty. He announced MOONLIGHT was the Winner and showed the card to the audience and viewers so all could see the Winners name printed in capital black lettering reading MOONLIGHT. I was delighted and overjoyed. My feelings were if Manchester By the Sea couldn’t receive the award I was pleased for Moonlight. It received Best Picture . Best Director . Best Supporting Actor . Best Writing Adapted Screenplay. This gives them (4) Four of the (13) Thirteen Major Awards from which I was Predicting.

My predictions came true for (5) Five Winners out of (8) Incorrect Picks. A percentage rate of 38.5% on winning calls. My Picks were Winners came true for: Best Actor . Best Actress in a Supporting Role . Best Foreign Language Film . Best Animated Feature Film . Best Original Screenplay.

A memorable conclusion to the close of the ceremony. Something I have never seen in all my years of watching the Oscars. It was horrifying. I was not routing for La La Land but to have this happen was awful for them. But I must say I was extremely relieved to hear who won was one of the films I was routing strongly for to beat out La La Land if Manchester By the Sea didn’t succeed in Winning. Moonlight was made on the frugal budget of $1 million dollars.

I was disappointed ‘The Empty Chair’ from the Documentary ‘Jim: The James Foley Story’ Did Not Win. It is a true story about the journalist who went to Syria . was captured by Isis . he never came home. The documentary is exceptional & the song ‘The Empty Chair’ is brilliant. No other song compared. Listening to Sting sing it breaks my heart. He wrote the song with J.Ralph. It fits perfectly for any who lose a loved one who will never come home. The chair is there for hope and for the memory of the one who is loved and missed.

I will mark the winners if mine or otherwise. All I feel were good choices except for Best Actress. I really do feel Isabelle Hubbert deserved the Oscar win for ELLE. She played a character no actress in America would take on. It is a shocking story. I suppose The Academy felt it needed to give some of the wins to La La Land but I felt it unworthy to be mixed in with the other Oscar nominees.

I wanted strongly for the James Baldwin documentary to win ‘I Am Not Your Negro’, instead O.J. interfered once again with a show that was a series not a film . so why was it even allowed to compete at the Oscars? It should have been limited to the Golden Globes & the Emmy’s. Anything else except the Oscars.

The humor was fun. The stage settings were magnificent at times. All went smoothly until the last category. Oops! I don’t think it will ever be allowed to happen again. I must admit I felt completely satisfied when Moonlight was announced as the Best Picture Winner. What a relief. A rescue from being tied to the train tracks screaming. So much excitement. – j.kiley

    Well done, Jennifer.
A most interesting Oscars with an unexpected cock-up at the end. So glad Moonlight got best picture. Supporting acting awards were spot on. And Zootopia, White Helmets & The Salesman -- excellent choices. Could have done without the tourists traipsing through -- I know it may seem fun at the time, but it’s the sort of thing that keeps the evening going for 4 hours! Let’s just hope the diversity we saw last night continues next year. Hollywood, don’t sit on your laurels!
