Strap On Halo is part of my interview assignment for Subkulture magazine but before interviewing these guys I prepared a post.

Members:

Layla Reyna – Vocals, Drums, Keyboards, Arrangements, Programming & Graphic design
Seán Rial – Guitar & Keyboards
Marc Rhön Jones – Bass & Keyboards

Genre: Gothic, Darkwave, Post punk

Red wine and dark chocolate. Delicious haunting sounds emanate from this American band based in Omaha,Nebraska. Whither you are a London Goth or fleeting scenester, there is no denying that the musicians behind  Stap-On Halo have created a sonic drama that is not common in today’s music. Using influences from traditional Goth bands like  Faith and The Muse, Mephisto Waltz and Sisters of Mercy, they blend the original sound with jangly guitars, haunting keyboards and stunning female voice.

Whither you are dancing under the rain, in graveyards or in the privacy of your bedroom surrounded by candles, there is no denying that it’s fun kind music. The pulsing beats inspire me to do the kung-fu dance in slow motion. Or is it catching butterflies in the air? Eric Draven could have read many poems to this music before avenging his loved one.

Apart from the passion for their music, they are also good with the merch side. Their Gloomy Sunday digipack includes: Triptych style hand made coffin box comes with a triptych coffin photo digipack, cd, logo pendant, stickers, and an 8×10 signed photo by the band. Each 9″x6″ box is hand made by Layla, signed and numbered. It’s not just having the music but the representation of the music that they are good at. This makes me feel tempted for their future releases.

Their latest release is a song called Ode to Krampus which celebrates the dark and naughty side of the holiday season. I think they have grown in terms of sound as there is more emphasis on the nuance and atmosphere compared to their past releases. Their full-length album Dead Don’t Lie is out with positive reviews. According to the band:

“In March 2014 we’ll be starting a small US tour across the southern states of the US, ending in California after about ten days on the road. We’ll also have four dates continuing onward home.”

S’cuse me while I kiss the sky!
