“If it can be written, or thought, it can be filmed.”
— Stanley Kubrick
Most cinephiles have seen Stanley Kubrick retrospectives, but this one is fresh and new. The editing is excellent, and the soundtrack is superb . What we have in this short film is an honorable tribute to one of the greatest film directors ever.
“His mind was a chessboard,
his eye was a camera
– and cinema will never see his equal again.”
We have lost many excellent directors but often they are not recognized for their genius. Often we go to a film and maybe we remember the cast but the person behind the camera, the one who creates the direction of the film, is forgotten or not even acknowledged. But without the insight of the director’s vision, there is no film. Stanley Kubrick is one of those directors with vision. Those who have seen his films, realize how amazing he really is.
Watch this short film, filled with moving images from Kubrick’s creative genius. If you see something you haven’t seen before, think seriously about tracking the film down and viewing it in full. There are great ones to choose from, yet he only has a small collection of films to his name. I have my favorites. See if you can find your own. I’m sure you have heard of, if not seen, some of his greats. Enjoy!
“The most terrifying fact about the universe
is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent.
But if we can come to terms with this indifference,
then our existence as a species can have genuine meaning.
However vast the darkness, we must supply our own light.”
—Stanley Kubrick (1928-1999)
