Stunning vocal talent and outstanding song writing have proven Celly Black to be one of the most exciting emerging musical talents to be on the lookout for this year. Celly is a soulful Hip Hop Singer/Songwriter with a penchant for stirring harmonies, lyrics of substance and impressive vocal arrangements. After collaborating with artists from Digible Planet’s Ladybug Mecca to Atari Teenage Riot’s CX Kidtronik, Celly is now rapidly carving out a phenomenally successful career. Celly can best tell you in her own words.
Inspired by super talents such as Chaka Khan, Prince, Nas, Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, Celly’s rich and sultry voice give extra dimension to the hip-hop soul she delivers. Her breakout release Homage is a mix-tape that pays just that. From the moving My Love written for her then drug addicted brother, to the quirky ‘em>Ya New Girlfriend written about a stalker she once had to face in court. The bold and sultry Mr. Tonight -written to the Luniz classic 5 On It -dares to challenge a man on his sexual bragging, and the heartfelt Selfish is a painful confessional which about being let down by loved ones due to jealousy.
Her video-game themed Free Love produced by Atari Teenage Riot’s CX Kidtronik, resulted in a singles’ deal offer from Stones Throw Records. Celly opted not to sign with the underground label.
Celly’s ability to create beautiful melodies and catchy hooks are quickly propelling her into the global music world. With regular radio spins in the UK, Celly is becoming well known across the Atlantic and beyond.
Definitely one to watch out for in 2013.
Celly is currenly working on her debut EP, and is currently unsigned.
