The Encounter
We gestured to the others
Across the street
Stalemated, we couldn’t decide who
Should cross
We wanted to meet
Yet were at a loss
We waited for the light to change
Or for the traffic to abate
We watched them rumble overhead – the trains
We wondered how much
Longer we should wait
We did a little waiting dance
Hampered in our quest by
Circumstance
The others on the other side
Like us were unable to decide
It got dark, and the seasons advanced
The sodium lights in the streetlamps flickered
We didn’t want to bicker, so
We decided to take a chance
We crossed the street, weaving patterns
Among the cars
We waved as we tried to make
Our way
In the dark
And, approaching the others, we
Found ourselves with nothing to say

Mesmerizing.
At least you took a chance… we don’t know unless we do. Great metaphor.
Thanks, Dani!
