Seize the Momentum to Blog!
Great ambition is the passion of a great character. Those endowed with it may perform very good or very bad acts. All depends on the principles which direct them.
Napoleon Bonaparte
Blogging is a creative activity. Even if you are writing informative articles, you have to admit you can’t do it without the momentum. When I say momentum, it is the build up of the following:
Enthusiasm: The passion for writing along with the subject one is going to write about. Do you show enthusiam when you write? People can tell. Merriam-Webster defines enthusiasm as: A: strong excitement of feeling. B: something inspiring zeal or fervor. Do your readers get inspired when they read your writing? Do they get that sense of electricity when they read through your prose?
Energy: Although it is part of enthusiasm, energy is more like the creative energy where ideas and the drive to do more research about the idea comes from. It is a battery to bloggers, novelists, musicians, and painters etc. There are days when one feels sluggish. Perhaps it’s the lack of sleep or mood swings: most of us creative people are inflected with melancholia or moments where feelings happen first before logic. After all, moods are the source of one’s passion. When you are ‘not in the mood’ I am sure you can’t put those words up there.
The big wave: The big wave is the combination of everything above. It is also passion. It comes to you and it feels like this huge approaching wave that lifts you up. I always have this affinity for surfers even though I don’t surf. These are people who anticipate that big wave and ride it. This is the same with writing. You don’t even search for passion. Because it is the most natural thing in the world. Passion just happens. You don’t fear for its loss. It’s as constant as the heartbeat or the tide.
I think there are factors that hamper one’s creativity that makes him/her loose that momentum. These are: lack of sleep, doing too much writing the day before, therefore draining one’s creative juices. It could be personal problems or like what I wrote the other day: the blogging atmosphere where you do most of your writing.
I think no matter what you do, the only best remedy is getting a good rest/sleep. Yes a good rest or sleep. Coffee won’t really help because we are talking about passion brought about by inspiration. We are not folding papers or lifting objects. We are creating something. I think momentum is very special and when we have it we must seize it because it comes and goes. But there will always be good ways to maintain it. Don’t worry. Creativity comes in abundance.

“When there’s a journey you follow a star
When there’s an ocean you sail from afar
And for the broken heart there is the sky
And for tomorrow are those who can Fly.”-Only If.

“Passion just happens. You don’t fear for its loss. It’s as constant as the heartbeat or the tide.” -- So true. It’s always there and the only thing that can interrupt this are influences from outside. I never paid much attention to HOW I actually write my posts or draw for that matter. But the things you mentioned are all part of it. Very often it’s not my lack of ideas, but lack of sleep or just feeling “meh” that interrupts my writing and thinking. Sometimes it influences my color choice, but that usually brings me new ideas haha
One thing I’m truly grateful for is that people do love to read whatever I write. I’ve heard I inspired them and I never thought I’d be able to do that
Great piece, Baxter! We all should ride the wave and do what we want in life! Oh and Enya’s voice is so amazing!
AH! and I love your art piece! You should show more…only if you want of course haha
Hahahaha thanks TJ.Yes we need the ‘beauty sleep’ every now and then so we can color the world with beautiful things. Well, I am not much of a graphic artist but being around graphic artists can really be contagious. For example, every time I go to facebook I see creativity. I see how much passion you pour into your writing and art. And when you are surrounded by creative people you will also become creative. It is true that the kind of people we choose to surround ourselves can also determine what kind of person we become. Thanks for your encouragement and seeing the good in me
You’re so right…with every thing you said! I do love to color the world with pretty things!!
It’s definitely contagious to be surrounded by other artistic people. This doesn’t be “illustrators” though. I can get easily inspired by writers, chefs etc. It’s their own desire to create that inspires me to create and be a better artists. No thank you needed, Baxter! You’re always so encouraging to me as well. ^_^
Each of us is important. Things can get stressful and intense sometimes .. and I seek shelter in tender and beautiful things…just like my love for gentle music without the “F” bombs and aggressive sounds,I also love beautiful images. We need those things more than ever…especially now when the world is really rearing its ugly head.I wanna be a super scion! Hahahaha

Nice one, Baxter!
Thanks Katy
I never thought about blogging before I started. I did not even understand what a blog was… and blogging has helped me grow tremendously. When the creative juices flow there is nothing better.
Great inspiration here Baxter.
Thank you Dani. It usually starts as an inward thing…a discovery. Then it spreads itself outside and then you affect the people around you with your thoughts. And you bring good feelings and intellectual stimulation to all those around you. In the end, we inspire each other
