Profile of a Sociopath
I was so inspired by watching the then presumptive, and now actual, Republican candidate for the office of the Presidency, I did a Google search for characteristics of a sociopath. I found a list of common denominators of sociopathic behavior, and I will enumerate them below. (Parenthetical remarks are mine.)
• Glibness and Superficial Charm (Smile never reaches the eyes)
• Manipulative and Conning (Loves to tell Big Lies)
• Grandiose Sense of Self (Huge sense of entitlement)
• Pathological Lying (Story changes with each audience)
• Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt (Did you hear the one about the dog?)
• Shallow Emotions (Need we say more?)
• Incapacity for Love (Ditto)
• Need for Stimulation (Doesn’t work; runs for office due to boredom)
• Callousness/Lack of Empathy (Doesn’t understand why we get upset)
• Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature (Haircut, anyone? Special rate for students!)
• Early Behavior Problems/Juvenile Delinquency (Right and wrong, hmm)
• Irresponsibility/Unreliability (Incapable of accepting blame)
• Promiscuous Sexual Behavior/Infidelity (Does not seem to apply)
• Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle (Bain Capital anyone?)
• Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility (He’s a big Business Man)
I keep looking at the candidate’s eyes when he lies, I mean speaks, trying to find a shred of warmth or humanity, but I search in vain. Only his usual expression of amused disbelief that one of the 99% (to coin a phrase), feels emboldened enough to question him or any of his actions. If he believes anything, this man believes that he is above all that and that his behavior and actions, and most especially his intentions, are simply none of our business. He also believes that, underneath our protestations to the contrary, we are all just like him.
He refuses to discuss his plans for the future. He declines to give his position on issues, so that even Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and John Boehner (R-OH), Speaker of the House, could only say that their position on President Barack Obama’s decision on Immigration, and his end-run around Congress, was the same as that of the candidate, who has not and will not explain what that position is. But then, he doesn’t have to, does he? In his world, at least, which is definitely not yours or mine. And this man wants to be the leader of the Free World. If that doesn’t scare you, you’re simply not paying attention!
Even if I could get past all the rest, I can’t get past that poor dog, wet, sick and imprisoned in that kennel for twelve long hours, completely at the mercy of someone who cannot comprehend the concept of mercy. It’s the heartless treatment of a helpless animal that tells the tale for me. This man should never be put in a position of power over one dog, let alone our whole country.

I wholeheartedly agree Melody. I do hope people wake up and realize before November.
Dani, me, too. It gives me hope that Democrats and, hopefully, Liberals don’t like him; women don’t like him; Latinos and African Americans don’t like him; the elderly should be scared witless of him; and even many, many Republicans don’t like him. In fact the only ones who seem to like him are rich people. Oh, and I forgot, dogs definitely don’t like him!
Melody,
Good article! I was speaking with Dean and he asked me why I so often call Willard a liar. Aside from his repeated lying, I got to thinking. Liar does not adequately describe this most dangerous of presidential candidates. Willard not only speaks falsely, he is FALSE.
I hope we and others can make this case convincingly and raise such an alarm in the minds of the American electorate that he has absolutely no chance of winning the presidency no matter how well funded his campaign may be.
Excellent post!
Larry
How have you been otherwise?
Thanks, Larry. Willard lies the way he breathes. He never seems to remember past behavior (forcibly cutting another student’s hair because he might be gay). When faced with incontrovertible proof, he will say he doesn’t remember, but IF (insert name of person) was hurt, he’s sorry.
And still I’m not sure if it’s any better that he is dangerously ill-, mis- or uninformed about US foreign policy. I think I almost know more about some situations than he. He’s all set to lead our war-weary country into still another shooting war!! All this at a time when suicides of army soldiers are up 80%! Instead of considering electing him, we should be getting a restraining order!
Amen. My fear is that our only choices will be Romney or Obama. ACK!
Oops, Big Obama supporter here. He had me at the Lilly Ledbetter Act and that was just the beginning!
I was all for him until he actually got into office. He’s had a few blips of “oh hey, maybe” but mostly it’s been downhill for me since he was inaugurated. :/ I’ve been very disappointed.
Then you’re obviously harder to please than I. Might I suggest reading this: http://pleasecutthecrap.typepad.com/main/what-has-obama-done-since-january-20-2009.html
I shake my head at my countrymen and women who actually swallow a word of what this candidate says. He is one of the most insincere men I have ever heard speak. He along with the rest of the negative Republican Party (not all of them), have utterly destroyed what the Republic is supposed to stand for. They have tried their best to undermine our president since before he ever took office. What a sad thing … our people suffer at the hands of these thoughtless individuals, who in any other country would be considered unpatriotic. The lies that are spewed make me want to ignore them, but that indeed would be folly.
The only one I see working for We The American People is our sitting and ever vigilant President Obama. I wish people would see he only wants what is best for us in leading our country by example. If he had not been fought every inch of the way just imagine where we would be today, instead of having a longer route to walk because of the naysayers.
Racism is kicking up the dust because of an old inferiority/superiority complex some white men and women have. They still feel entitled to ruin anything that is not in-line with their ways, because how in the world could a man who is not all white lead us? How presumptuous of him they think! Remember God made us (all of us) in His own image. Abolish racism, make it against the law because it creates havoc in clear thinking and people behave badly because of it. This is supposed to be the land of equality. What happened?
Thanks, Theresa, you present your case very eloquently. I wish more people would take such a clearheaded and unbiased approach. I’m in total agreement with you!
