Hard-headed desire to lift the veil and
Shine a light brings little hearts closer to the
Fire and ignites them
Let them shrivel in the flame
What does it matter?
So easy to let things keep on
Being the same or even worse
Let the energy drive
The reaction
Right back into darkness
Unreeling all the love and hopefulness of
Youthful optimism
Only to let it sink down into
The valley between scars
I couldn’t remember the buoyancy of
Simple joy or heart-swelling love
I stood outside the veil and
Called it my art
Pricked with inspiration
I let it

Down into the deepest holes
Left behind by despair
It is energy efficient for the short-term
And the inertia
Leaves all the best
Parts of me there

Anya, you have a way of saying so much with so few words. This is an amazing poem!
Many thanks, Cher.
That is a compliment of the highest order in my book.
Anya,
“Right back into darkness

Youthful optimism

The valley between scars”
This comment covers so much, personal relations, the political situation, a possible future for America. Simply a profound expression of everything that hangs in the balance today.
Loved it!
Larry
That’s kind of where it came from. I spend a lot of energy trying to be positive and share positivity, and some days it’s definitely swimming against the tide. I’ve been reading all these great books with great ideas about how to make the world better -- ideas that make sense -- and it seems so within reach, but then I see all the support for the worst behaviors we commit, and I wonder if anything I say will make a difference.
Anya -- That was a wonderfully insightful poem. Should give people a lot to think about. Thanks for posting it.
“So easy to let things keep on/Being the same or even worse”
I think so many people have been there before.
