The Mists of Darkness
Our lives were hectic and rushed
My heart was content
Now I am crushed
The darkness closes in on my heart
The sadness reclaims its place in my countenance
I can only manage a weak empty smile
for people who ask how I am
My breaths are shallow and ragged
My gait is limping and slow
My heart rips in my chest with every beat
I can no longer find the sun
Or the joy in my life
But still I can dance
I no longer whistle while I perform tasks
I no longer sing in the shower
I no longer see the colors of spring
or hear the laughter of my children
But still I am dancing
I am alone
My heart is empty
I am dancing in the mists of darkness
Saying goodbye to life
Courting death
Dancing
In the mist

Elisa,
What a heartrending poem! It express eloquently what many have felt and many feel. None or immune to such feelings and in the midst of jubilation lurk the seeds of despondency.
In a poetic sense, I enjoyed this and deeply appreciate your skill and creativity in writing it and your willingness and generosity in sharing it.

Thank you, Larry.
How profoundly sad. Well expressed heartache here Elisa.
Thanks, Dani.
