Lineage
Inside each one of us
Is the same matter once
Contained in the heart of
A crucible of unimaginable
Beauty and unending flame
We are here now, as we are
Obviously meant to be
Called forward out of
The inevitability of creation
The message and the memory
Of our fiery beginnings
So deeply graven into
The very fabric of our beings
That we instinctively recognize
Our kinship to those distant
Twinkling points of light
No wonder early humans
Worshipped stars and
Thought them gods

I am prone to lie in the grass, even snow at night to watch the stars twinkle. The star maps provide the guidance to travelers. They are constants to our ancestors and now our lives. The streaks across the sky once meant a meteor was falling to earth. Today, it means some man made space junk is falling to earth. It used to be good luck and we made wishes upon the falling star. Now we hope that the piece of satelite does not hit someone or their home. I love your prose. Thank you…
Frank, I urge you to watch or buy PBS’s “Journey of the Universe”, narrated by Jonathan Thomas Swimme, an evolutionary philosopher. What he said, and especially the fact that for the first time I Understood what a scientist was saying, made an enormous impact on me and is the crucible in which this poem was born. I feel changed, and I feel hope and I feel enormously challenged to be a part of the process. Thank you for all your encouragement.
Awesome, Melody. You’re on a roll!
Thank you, Julian, I’m glad it spoke to you. If you’ll see my reply to Frank, above, you’ll see that it spoke to me as well. I treasure compliments from you, one of my earliest online writing heroes!
Very nice, Melody. Julian is right, you’re on a roll! Keep em’ rolling.
My Muse recently won the Lottery, which has her feeling pretty generous right now. Let’s hope her luck continues. Thanks, Dean.
Melody -- lovely. Can’t wait for what your muse inspires you with next
Me either. It’s so wonderful when the words are flowing. Maybe she and I can do some kind of a deal, so it’s not either feast or famine.
I find it very beautiful that brings us back to our distant origin
They’re reminders of what we really are inside. Thank you.
Beautiful, Melody! Twinkling bundles of lights, lighting up the sky, surrounded by a soft glow…I love stars
And TJ knows about beauty, right? I can hardly wait to see the new tee shirt! And TJ, the stars love you right back!
