Hello! and: Socks
Hello everyone,
I am not sure if I am supposed to be doing this, (posting something, that is)! I’m Sam (and a female- I often get mistaken for a man online).
I’m new to WordPress sites like this, and new to this one, and still finding my way around, so please forgive me if I make a right hash of this!
Thanks for having me
Just want to say too this is a fabulous site you have made here, great writing art and poetry (and probably lots more great stuff too!) on here, I am honoured to be in your company.
As it has just turned midnight and is now Valentine’s Day (in the UK) I thought I’d share with you a “bah humbug to Romance” poem I wrote recently.
This is a little recent addiction of mine, to write 3 line verses sticking to the formula of 5,7,5 syllables, it’s quite fun. Counting on your fingers never came in so handy!
(A Translation note: Slang for the good old quality shop Marks and Spencers=Marks and Sparks for anyone not from these shores)
“Socks”

Rummage in my drawer
Pull out socks long left behind
God these never wear
It’s been a long time
Since they saw your feet. I wear
Them quite a bit. Not
through nostalgia
But because they are there – and
Marks and Sparks I’ll bet
Ironic really
For you wore out very fast
Had no quality
Not to mention spark
Although you did have good taste
‘Specially in socks.

Hello Sam and welcome to Expats! I love your socks and the color is dazzling.
thankyou Cher so much
I feel so welcomed here and I love it
So cute! Love it Sam Parr, totally dig the 5-7-5. Great first Expats post!!!
thankyou Pete
yeah you introduced me to the 5-7-5 thing and I THANK you for that ALOT!
Welcome to Expats Sam! I love wearing socks, but living in south Florida I am usually barefoot -- haha. Great poem. Can’t wait to read more of your writings as you take on this new journey.
thanks so much Katy. I wish I lived somewhere where there little requirement for socks -- I have so many and many are ODD too
Plus I’d just liek to live somewhere warm
Ciao Sam! I love socks as well and I usually have the ones that are like legwarmers too. It always makes me want to dance around like Flashdance or Fame haha. Such a lovely poem and a big welcome to Expats again!
thankyou TJ! it is not a surprise to me somehow that you would want to dance around like something out of Flashdance or Fame -- I wonder how I got that impression LOL!
Hahahah I wanna know where you got that impression as well
Bienvenu, Sam! I like your poem, and your blue socks. Right now, I’m sitting at my computer with my socks half pulled off, so they’re only on my feet from my arch to my toes. It’s too cool to take them off and too warm to have them all the way on. Probably more than you wanted to know.
Lol that reminds me of the “sticking one foot out from under the duvet” routine Melody! -cools you down just enough where both feet out would be too cool!
Haha you’re funny Melody!!
