Laughter

Laughter is the natural response
To the universe
The pure sort that bubbles up from
The child who thinks
Everything is so cool!
The belly-bending reaction of
Recognizing yourself in the joke
The giggle of the swoopy feeling
On the inside and outside of
Your ribcage on the
Best ride in the universe
The times we are closest
Celebratory
Connected and warm
We laugh softly
Gleefully
Bashfully
Heartily
Musically
When our hearts are fullest

Of course laughter is the
Natural response to the
Universe

Thoughts about why I always feel like giggling when I watch astronomy videos.

Just this morning I was behind a school bus, and traffic came to a stop. The kids in the back of the bus started waving at me wildly, and when I waved back and threw them the peace sign they all high-fived each other and were laughing. I thought, “How cool to be so excited over something so simple. I wish we didn’t lose that as adults.”

That’s awesome. :) I tutor children, and I always get a kick out of it when a young kid thinks something is cool -- it kind of reminds me how cool simple things really are.

“Recognizing yourself in the joke”…great line Ann. Not enough laughter going on to my mind, it keeps you healthy I think and the best people are those who have the ability to laugh at themselves as well. Welcome to Expats, glad you finally made it here.

Cheers, Garry. :) I agree about laughter being a well-honed ability in the best people I’ve ever known. :)

Anya, I Loved your poem, and I loved the attitude from which you wrote it. Joy is meant to be a natural wellspring inside each of us, and we are the losers indeed when we lose touch with our inner child. I’m going to enJoy having you here!
