I Ask No More

[media-credit name=”Courtesy of Creative Commons” align=”alignnone” width=”300″][/media-credit]You look in my direction, I don’t notice

You discover me, I turn away, unknowingly

I notice you because you stand in front of me

I ask for kindness, you comply

You raise me high, but I’m afraid

You try to convince me all is good and I believe

I rely on your shoulders, you barely notice

I ask for awareness, you slowly become blind.

You desire more, I supply all that I have

You drain my soul; I struggle, silently

I believe in you, us; you admire only your prize

I ask for breathing room, you breathe in deeper

You take complete control, I am paralyzed

You are superior, I am now weak

I acquiesce to all because you wave a finger

I ask for release, you dismiss

Enough…

I take a breath; I open my eyes; I listen to my heart; I speak to myself and….

I ask no more…of you.

  • Ah Katy, Katy, you start dabbling into poetry and have to say that this was lovely 🙂 The road you have to travel before you decide to take control over yourself can be long and hard, but once you decide that it is enough, you are stronger than ever. Can we expect more poetry by you? 🙂

    • Dear, sweet TJ. Thank you for the kind words. This was a huge departure for me. I wasn’t going to write it but came up with the title and asked a friend to write a poem for me. They told me to write one first and this came pouring out a few days later.
Never really wrote poetry before although I did dabble with lyrics when I was younger, much, much younger but this was my first attempt at writing a poem; and I had no idea what I was doing. I did ask for some advice from some pretty terrific poets so I was confident to publish this upon their guidance and approval.

Also, my son’s poem inspired me to dig deep and write.

Will I write another? That is unclear at the moment, but I won’t rule it out. 😉

      • You took flight and now you only have to soar! I love this, so I’m very happy to hear that you won’t “rule” it out hehe. As long as you keep on writing right?

I have a bit of poetry from the past, but they are definitely not good enough to post here. I should say, I’m not confident enough about them. Not sure how I’d write poetry now, last one I wrote was 6 years ago.

You know I love your son’s poetry as well 🙂

        Xoxoxo!!

        • TJ -- don’t be afraid to try it again. And remember there are many here that can help you. I couldn’t have done it without a few expats’ help 🙂
