A Little Greener 2
As part of my plan to be greener I want to highlight and promote restaurants who cooperate with my plan and also give kudos to restaurants I discover that are already doing their part. My plan is proceeding well as I have now convinced yet another of my favorite eateries ( EL Paseo ) to let me use my own go containers. Again, they did look at me sideways thinking I was crazy, and it did take some persuasion but well worth the effort. (More flies with sugar approach) Maybe with some prodding I can convince them at some point to switch to eco friendly go containers as well. (Baby steps) I love Mexican food it is probably my favorite next to Steak and Masterpiece tacos. (Wait…I guess Masterpiece tacos are Mexican too) Here are some photos of my go containers filled with El Paseo”s most excellent enchiladas, rice, and beans. Lourde’s enchilada sauce is like no other!
Now I don’t always remember my containers and I don’t beat myself up about it either. (counter productive) I just give myself praise when I do remember and I always make an honest effort. This isn’t going to happen over night, but if we all make an honest effort just think how quickly things will change for the better.
On to my next most pleasant surprise. I had the good fortune to eat at another Mexican restaurant who is known for their focus on fresh and GREEN. If you are ever in California near Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, you must visit Sea Casa. Their food is fresh and authentic, and they make every effort to be GREEN. I was so excited when I saw their containers. I thought to myself …all restaurants should be using these! Everything Sea Casa uses is recyclable. The food container you see below is made by a company called Earth Choice. These containers are Bio-degradable unlike their styrofoam competitors. While there does not appear to be a website specific to Earth Choice there are many companies who sell their products. On this day I had a chicken quesadilla with pico de gallo and guacamole with a very yummy verde sauce that had a nice kick. Got to have the kick.
I looked up Green Ware and it is pretty awesome stuff. Not only are these completely compostable, but they are made from plants. Yay! Completely renewable and bio-degradable, and they are made in the USA. It is difficult to see in the photo but on the back of the one container it says “Cups made from plants make a difference”. It was important for me to find a restaurant using these type of containers so that I can begin to execute the next part of my plan. I want to start petitioning my favorite restaurants to use GREEN containers. So I needed to know a little more about the containers I would be asking them to use. It looks like I will have to petition each restaurant individually so this part of my plan is most likely going to take some time. I will, of course, update you on my progress, and highlight which restaurants I can convince to go GREENER!

Love the article, Dani. I especially love your attitude about your whole “green” transition. We to go! Although, I think the photos in this article only added to my cravings eat more Mexican food.
Dean sorry to make you hungry..lol Mexican food is the bomb.
Thank you so much for reading and commenting.
They use these here EVERYWHERE. I’m so happy to hear that more and more places (and people) are adopting them.
Jen, that makes me so happy to hear that there are other places that are more with it. If I have my way..I will do my part to help California get more with it too. Thank you so much for your thoughts. You are so appreciated.
