Ocean X Team Researching Something “Really Cool” (Updated)

[media-credit name="cnn" align="alignleft" width="300"][/media-credit]In a story touching the outer fringes of the mainstream, a team of explorers have made a discovery that over the course of the next few days will be revealed in detail, with photographs.  The team set off for the Baltic Sea coordinates on June 4, 2012 one year after locating a mysterious anomaly through sonar scans and remote cameras.

The team has been highly public about posting updates on the mission on Twitter and Facebook.  Speculation from a legion of interested onlookers ranges this “find” being a possible World War II dumping site to perhaps a portal to the inner world.

‘We’ve heard lots of different kinds of explanations, from George Lucas’s spaceship – the Millennium Falcon – to “it’s some kind of plug to the inner world,” like it should be hell down there or something,’ said Peter Lindberg, Co-Owner and diver, Ocean Explorer, Stockholm, Sweden.

Dennis Asberg, another Co-Owner and diver for the Ocean Explorer team, in previous interviews and statements regarding the find, maintained a conservative approach while piquing world-wide public interest, but now says, “we are confident that we found something really cool.”

The two most recent updates on the Ocean X website read:

June 07, 2012 BREAKING NEWS 2pm, The divers are now down and investigating the circle and reports from the ship say they are really amazed. There is definitely something unusual hiding at the seabed – a Mystery Beneath. More information and pictures will be released next week. June 6, 2012 1.00 pm, Ocean X Team on site The ship Ancylus, carrying the Ocean X Team, is now anchored above the circle-shaped object. They started to scan the seabed and they are taking samples for analyses. Due to really bad weather conditions the operation took a little bit longer than scheduled. But they are working hard and prepare to dive down there for further investigations today.

The explorers estimate this “thing” to be a 197-foot-diameter unidentified structure that sits  275 feet down on the floor of the Baltic Sea some 60 nautical miles from nearest land between Sweden and Finland.  The crew made the discovery on June 19, 2011, on the last day of a treasure hunting expedition to find sunken wrecks.

Message board poster fastnlo speculated “This anomaly is just what it appears to be, a completely round 200ft. in diameter crashed unidentified flying object such as has been seen around the world in various shapes and sizes for approximately the last 70 years by individuals, groups of people, pilots, police officers, astronauts and military personnel and tracked by radar for the same period of time.”

meirustynugget mused  “This craft lost power or due to pilot error crashed into the sea at a rate of speed high enough that it penetrated approximately 290 ft. of water and then slid on the sea floor another 1800 ft. before coming to a complete stop.  I also suggest that this crash happened recently enough in time that the trail leading to it’s resting place has not been eroded and covered up by the natural currents and movement of the sea water around it.”

Though the answer may not be as interesting as a UFO or a lost Russian submarine, the team did a magnificent job in raising the interest of investors which made the search possible.

Ocean X Team has been conducting various diving excursions in North Europe for over 20 years. Their main focus has been to search for hidden treasures such as antique high-end alcoholic beverages and historic artifacts. Some excursions include the salvaging of champagne bottles from the wreck “Jönköping” in 1997. The treasure hunters, Peter Lindberg and Dennis Åsberg, have been in the maritime industry since 1995.

15/6/2012, PRESS RELEASE

THE TREASURE HUNTERS, OCEAN X TEAM, DISCOVERED SOMETHING UNIQUE WHEN THEY DOVE DOWN TO THE MYSTERIOUS CIRCLE-SHAPED OBJECT IN THE BALTIC SEA

Treasure hunters confirm they have found something abnormal in the seabed

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, June 15, 2012

The Ocean X Team dove down to the circle-shaped object in the Baltic Sea and met something they never experienced before. First they thought it was just stone or a rock cliff, but after further observations the object appeared more as a huge mushroom, rising 3-4 meters/10-13 feet from the seabed, with rounded sides and rugged edges. The object had an egg shaped hole leading into it from the top, as an opening. On top of the object they also found strange stone circle formations, almost looking like small fireplaces. The stones were covered in something resembling soot.

“During my 20-year diving career, including 6000 dives, I have never seen anything like this. Normally stones don’t burn. I can’t explain what we saw, and I went down there to answer questions, but I came up with even more questions “, says Stefan Hogeborn, one of the divers at Ocean X Team.

The path to the object itself can be described as a runway or a downhill path that is flattened at the seabed with the object at the end of it.

“First we thought this was only stone, but this is something else. And since no volcanic activity has ever been reported in the Baltic Sea the find becomes even stranger. As laymen we can only speculate how this is made by nature, but this is the strangest thing I have ever experienced as a professional diver“, continues Peter Lindberg, one of the founder Ocean X Team.

Right now, scientists are examining samples from the circle-shaped object, and experts in sonar imaging are processing data from the ship to hopefully shed more light over the mysterious object.

UPDATE – JULY 01, 2012

On June 20th, the Ocean X team co-owner, Peter Lindberg, was interviewed by Linda Moulten Howe (Earthfiles, Coast to Coast writer/guest host) to clarify his team’s find.  Below are some of the quotes and a link to the said interview:
