Art Rocks Athens: How Art Made Music In Georgia From 1975-85
by Art Rocks Athens Foundation

Update #1 Mar 23 2014
The B-52’s Cindy & Kate Portrait by Keith Bennett Now Available

This archival print of an image captured by photographer Keith Bennett in the late 70s has been crafted in an limited edition of ten prints. Each 11″x17″ print is enhanced and printed by the photographer from the original 35mm slide and shows the B-52’s Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson in stunning youthful glory backstage at Atlanta’s Agora Ballroom in 1978. This remarkable image has been brought back to life 36 years later exclusively for the Art Rocks Athens Kickstarter.

Each print will be numbered sequentially by order of backing: Backer #1 receives print 1 of 10; backer #2 receives 2 of 10, and so on. To make each of these rare gems more precious, each print will be signed by Kate, Cindy and Keith!

Another once in a lifetime find available only at #ARA2014 Kickstarter.

ARAF MISSION STATEMENT

Art Rocks Athens Foundation, a non-profit organization, was created to preserve the history of art created during a vital period in the town of Athens, Georgia, USA. Our mission is to unearth and share with the world the history of American art from this time and place. Our work is doubly important: Not only is this art a rich yet unseen presence in our country’s history of art, but it is threatened to be eternally eclipsed by the famous music scene it helped incubate in the first place.

By creating a permanent historical database; a curatorial record of exhibitions; and access to curators, collectors and scholars across the world, Art Rocks Athens stands poised to brightly illuminate vital American artworks that have essentially never before been in the public eye. Additionally, the Art Rocks project is guided by the very people who witnessed and participated in this history, making a picture far more complete than any outside historian could produce.

The Executive Committee of Art Rocks Athens has been working to develop programs and events that will further our mission of preservation, illumination and outreach. Since 2011, a diverse group of people in the Athens community have been working to bring Art Rocks to life. Photos and short biographies of our 35 team members are available on our website.

I saw the B-52’s last year and thought the entire band still looked great. Kate Pierson looked exceptionally hot!
