[/media-credit]*coughs and removes dust from the column*
So sorry for the lack of posting and rambling here. I figured that today would be a good day to start posting again as tomorrow is also…my birthday! You know “a fresh start” and all that jazz. But! It is also because I really have things to ramble about again. The time around my last post, my thoughts were too bundled up to make sense and I couldn’t write a proper post to save my life (slight exaggeration here). My column is like a little diary where I share what I encounter on my creative journey in a more serious way and I felt like I was constantly repeating myself with my thoughts and the things I wanted to share. So my focus has been more on creating art and finishing projects. With every birthday, I’m also reminded about the day I strolled to the Chamber of Commerce to get myself registered as an “one-lady business”. So a bit of reflection is often involved to see what I would do differently in the upcoming year. And you know what? I totally forgot that I was pondering if I should do a few workshops in a youth center near my home.
Obviously, I didn’t, because I would blog about it if I did. The reason why I didn’t go through with it, was that I had to figure out tax stuff and then I got a few large commissions. I had to prioritize my schedule again and decided to place the workshops back on the shelf for now. There is this odd rule that I can’t claim business costs back if I teach to kids under eighteen years old. At least, this is what my tax adviser mentioned when she asked me if I was planning to give workshops anytime soon. Besides this, I also had to think of a plan; because what exactly was I going to teach? I’m not someone who just gives a workshop for the sake of saying “Oh you know, I gave a few workshops about drawing as well”.
I will be honest here and tell you that, I was wondering if I’m “ready” to teach others how to draw. I’m still wondering and I honestly don’t know if I am. I probably won’t know until I actually do it. I do know that in the few occasions that I was “teaching” others something about drawing, it was fun and people actually listened. Also, when I created the cupcake tutorial last year, the positive feedback I got was huge and it is my best viewed post since. So that should say something, I think?
Either way, I do know that I’m not that confident in all my skills yet to give workshops. Maybe if I place the focus only on how to draw cupcakes and cute things first, I know could do that. If I want to give workshops more frequently on various subjects, I need to gain more confidence in my own skills. But yeah, I’d love to teach others how they could draw in their own TJ-way and it would definitely be a fun addition to what I do. At least I think it would be fun. I never thought that I would be even thinking about teaching; giving presentations was annoying enough when I was younger. I don’t like to be in the center of attention all the time and with teaching well, you kind of are. Still, I am curious about this and I know that I will give a workshop or two in the near future. When I do, I’ll make sure I’ll let you all know!
